10 years of Suan: From 15 square meters to a branding agency

Susanne and André had known each other for several years. They studied together at the HGK Basel, completed their Master’s degree side by side, and even worked on a number of freelance projects during that time. After graduating, they first went their separate ways, gaining experience in other positions before eventually coming back together. For more than three years, they worked at the same agency, helped build its branding team, and realized more and more that they wanted to leave their own mark on the branding and design world in Switzerland and beyond.

2015 was the year.

After months of preparation, we officially founded Suan as a general partnership. Just the two of us, in Claragraben, tucked away in a backyard, in a 15-square-meter office within a shared studio space.

Our everyday mission was clear: build references, gain experience, grow. Still a bit green and with no real sales experience, that meant building a network step by step. We sought out exchange in groups, mentoring programs, networks, and associations. That’s how the first projects came in. We had successes, we failed, we got back up and kept getting better.

Then came 2020.

For many, the pandemic meant standstill, setbacks, and uncertainty. For us, it was both a test and an opportunity. We used the time to sharpen our profile, optimize our digital processes, and win new clients. While the outside world was at a standstill, we kept building from within—our expertise, our team, and our identity as an agency.

Today, ten years after our founding, we are a thriving agency with up to 13 team members, renowned clients, large budgets, and projects that extend far beyond Switzerland’s borders. We combine strategic brand work with award-winning design and bring both to life for clients who want to create real impact.

Our clients include Coop, blpk, University of Basel, Historical Museum Basel, Canton of Basel-Stadt, Canton of Basel-Landschaft, Derendinger, OCC Assekuradeur, Rotstift AG, SENS eRecycling, and many other exciting partners.
