Sens eRecycling has launched a pilot project for the collection of electronic toys in cooperation with the Swiss Post. SUAN conceptualized and designed the packaging. In addition to communication, this included the complete container, consisting of recycling bag, packaging plus an information flyer and poster. The Scraptopus, the mascot of Sens, was transformed into a recycling hero for the children and encouraged participation at schools and in families.
At the start of the pilot project, the residents of Zurich Seefeld and Schwamendingen received a specially developed recycling bag, which they could use for two months to deposit defective or disused electronic appliances in their own mailbox. This bag was then collected by the mail carrier on their next delivery round and transferred to recycling. As a token of gratitude for the toys to be recycled, the mail carrier left a small gift for the participants.
The biggest challenge in the process was to incorporate the Swiss Post’s regulations for a smooth process and to coordinate the various stages. The positive response from the public and a proud 207 kg of accumulated old equipment give reason to hope that the domicile collection will soon be introduced throughout Switzerland.
